FOB1244: Accomplished!
Documenting the super time consuming process of changing the halyards for head sails and main sail. It took me quite a few weekends to finally change all the halyards.
Tried different methods:
1. Using raffia string as mousing lines (too light no good), using rolling hitch to tie up the rope is not good. ropes can stuck because the angle of pull within the mast.
2. Using a proper thin string as mousing line. No good. Rolling hitch got stuck in mast because ropes are too thick.
3. Using thin string sew onto existing line using fishing line/ dental floss- THIS WORKS!
Then it comes another difficulty: the lines get stuck easily at the connecting part because:
a. the end was too stiff (and long) because it was cut with heat knife so it was inflexible to negotiate the bends within the mast. So need to cut it to make the stiff ends short and hence more flexible.
b. sewing technique makes a difference. Need to always end and secure at the end of the line so that when you pull, it minimises the chances of getting stuck within the mast.
c. use a tape around the ends to make it easier to negotiate the bends within the mast.
Now to the other lines/sheets… slowly…
