Update: Securing my NRS Titanium Co-Polit Knife to Stholquist Descent PFD with prarcord.
Not wanting to lose my investment in the sea, I thought this is a good way to prevent my knife from sinking down to the ocean. Below are the photos to how I secure the knife to the PFD with minimal obstruction while maximising usability.

Tying a bowline at the knife end. On hindsight, this should be done last.

I tied a figure of eight as a stopper knot first.

Then I used a bowline to secure it to the PFD with the figure of eight stopper knot to make it ultra secure.

I shorten the loose ends by using a shoelace knot. Shortening this minimise the chance of the rope getting caught accidentally. Notice the running end is at the knife end so that if I pull it out in emergency, the cord lengthens all the way without much resistance.
